Blogging the 61st Grammys Category 83 – Best Music Video

Award to the artist, video director, and video producer.

APES*** – The Carters

THIS IS AMERICA – Childish Gambino

I’M NOT RACIST – Joyner Lucas

PYNK  Janelle Monáe

MUMBO JUMBO – Tierra Whack

I guess I’m the last person in the World to realise The Carters are Jay-Z and Beyonce. That said, out of these videos theirs was my favorite. It’s set in the Louvre and is very entertaining and visually interesting. I never would have guessed in a billion years who it was if I hadn’t watched the video. The Childish Gambino was something I wish I hadn’t watched. I love the song and the artist, the video was too violent for me. Joyner Lucas I first heard audio only and it really confused me at first. Seeing the video I totally get it – much better than Brad Paisley and LL Cool J‘s “Accidental Racist” from a few years back. “Pynk” is just ridiculous. I like the song ok, but the video is too over the top for this old man. She gives Hammer a run for his money in the pants department, though. If you enjoy trips to dentist involving lots of blood, you’ll love Tierra Whack. I wish I hadn’t seen this.

LIFE IN 12 BARS Eric Clapton
WHITNEY Whitney Houston
QUINCY Quincy Jones
ITZHAK Itzhak Perlman
THE KING Elvis Presley

Well hello there. We meet again. There have been big changes in my life since the last Grammy Awards. I have finally decided to leave one space after a period. That’s pretty much it. See, I’m only leaving one space. I have given up on the two-space rule. You win, young people.

So, as I write this I have almost made it through about 2,000 tracks out of what I assume will be close to 4,500 again. I’ve discovered some stuff I really love, and confirmed I really don’t care for other things (I’m looking at YOU, Contemporary Opera!)

This first post is for a movie category. I listened to the Eric Clapton soundtrack, and it confirmed I really don’t hear anything interesting in his music. I kind of like Layla, but lordy I heard it enough when I worked at a place that had classic rock radio on all day. I also kind of like his Miami stuff – hell of a band. But as far as these movies are concerned, I haven’t seen any of them. I did see a great Elvis doc called “The Searcher” on HBO that I highly recommend, but this nominated film isn’t that. I’ll see if I can track these down and view them in the next few weeks and I will update this entry. I’ll probably like them.

In the interim – I wanted to point you to the list of nominees – maybe you’ll want to join in the fun! The complete list is here. I’ll try to schedule one post a day. The awards air on February 10th, so that will give me 40 days or so. Okay, so I’ll need to post twice a day. I’ll see if I can figure out how to schedule a post to publish at 6 AM and 6 PM every day.

Here we go!
